About Busy Doing Nothing.

Reclaiming the joy of a long lunch and a messy kitchen.

Busy Doing Nothing is a dedication to a slower, more intentional way of living. It is a space for those of us in our go-slow era, where we prioritise connection and presence. We believe that doing nothing is actually the whole point of a well-lived life.

This site is about the honest magic of a real, lived-in kitchen. You will find flour on the floor, a fridge full of leftovers, and the simple ritual of feeding people. I am not a trained chef or a recipe pro, and that is why these recipes work—they are manageable and designed for the beautiful chaos of real life.

Our Pillars

Feast

Inspired by my own family’s tradition of Sunday lunches where there was always room for one more, this is the heart of the site. Feast focuses on versatile, large-format recipes that work just as well for a hosted menu as they do for a bring-a-plate gathering with friends. These are meals designed for sharing, allowing you to step away from the stove and stay in the conversation. From generous spreads to simple drink pairings, this is the art of effortless gathering.

Nourish

Nourish is for the moments in between the gatherings—the quiet time in the kitchen when the house is still. These are simple, intentional recipes for one or two that focus on the restorative nature of cooking for yourself. From slow breakfasts to resourceful midnight snacks, this is food that serves as your personal reset. It is about eating well at your own pace and finding comfort in the process.

Enjoy

This is the lifestyle side of slowing down, looking at everything beyond the plate. Enjoy is where we house the non-recipe elements of a life well-lived: the books worth reading, slow-living tips that actually stick, and reflections on the beauty of the mundane. It is about the context of your life—the environment, the mindset, and the belief that slowing down is a vital part of living well.

Our Approach

When I started swapping store-bought staples for homemade ones, the shift happened naturally. Whenever a recipe has been adapted, I will always link back to the original creator or cookbook so you can find the same inspiration I did.

Hopefully, with Busy Doing Nothing as your guide, you will turn simple ingredients into an opportunity to feast abundantly, nourish deeply, and enjoy thoroughly.

See you out there, Melissa
